The Modern Pilgrim's Journey

The Harvest is Ready. Are We?

The Modern Pilgrim #29- Pilgrim is lost. While she snoozed in the Comfy Cozy Church, the Good Shepherd led the other pilgrims far beyond her ability to see them. Confused and lonely, she dashes into the next building on the trail, another church, but is quickly horrified as soon as she steps inside. Embarrassed and shocked by the behavior and dress of this church’s members, she backs out of the door before anyone notices she’s even entered.

Many years ago, a woman approached Ken and I and requested that we pray for her deliverance from witchcraft. We invited another discerning friend to join us and gathered in our family room to pray and invite God to cut the bonds that had been wrapped around this woman’s life since birth.

After three hours of watching various demons manifest in this woman’s body, we realized we’d made no progress whatsoever. We all sensed that there was something afoot but at the time, we weren’t certain whether it was us or her. I think it was both. I’m not certain this woman longed to be free as much as she wanted special attention from Ken and me.

But I can’t put our failure all on her. Some of it was our lack of discernment. Another component was sin in our lives. At that time, I had a chronic sin of unrighteous anger and grudge holding. Unconfessed sin is ground for Satan to stand on. I expect that I amused him greatly that day, attempting to break someone else’s strongholds from my own position of bondage. Foolishness.

A Great Awakening has already begun. Some of us have dreamy pictures in our heads about the sinners who will come to Jesus Christ. Yes, they will fall at his feet and that will be a beautiful thing that we will celebrate. However, when they stand back up to begin the process of discipleship, we will see that many of them are a hot mess. Messes not easily fixed.

People that don’t know how to dress for or behave in a church service.

People who don’t know how to discipline their children.

People addicted to substances and bizarre behaviors of many kinds.

People steeped in witchcraft and Satan worship.

People in same sex marriages. With children involved.

Men who have fathered children with numerous women.

Women with children from numerous men.

Embezzlers who haven’t been caught yet.

Women who have experienced multiple abortions.

Medical practitioners who have performed numerous abortions.

The average American church and believer aren’t ready for these folks and the myriad of demonic strongholds attached to them. There are entities connected to many unbelievers that will not simply give up their ground once a soul commits themselves to Christ. Salvation is our doorway into freedom. Living in it comes through daily submitting to Christ’s lordship and becoming a disciple of Christ. Not just a convert of Christ. There’s a difference. Walking as a disciple involves progressively cooperating with God in a character transformation from old nature to new. This process continues until Jesus takes us home to heaven.

God gently restores and recreates a heart, soul and mind which Satan previously fractured in a person. Our good Father continues to work by degrees, even in mature believers, in the context of the body of Christ. The body is designed for accountability and mutual encouragement. We should never stop growing and changing in this life.

Chronic sin will hinder my ability to live as a disciple and lead others out of bondage. How can you help a prisoner out of a cell if you are in jail yourself?

Sadly, too many Christians allow pet sins and worldly behaviors to remain in their lives, like I used to tolerate and justify anger. And other stuff. We need to understand that here on earth, God created us to be portals for his glory to pass through. We are like prisms, designed to reflect and radiate God’s glory and character. Satan knows this, so he captures people and uses them to reflect his evil nature.

When I am engaged in sinful, worldly behavior, that completely messes me over as a portal for God’s glory. What kind of behavior and sin am I talking about? Well, this will probably lead to some cancelled subscriptions, but we’ve got to confront this stuff now. We are not prepared for the last days harvest that’s coming at us. We are entangled with sin ourselves and need to get free. Sins like:

  • Drinking alcohol to the point of getting a buzz. (Eph. 5:18)
  • Addiction to legal or illegal drugs (I Corinthians 3:16)
  • Gluttony or any kind of food addiction. (Philippians 3:18-19)
  • Living a homosexual or lesbian lifestyle. (Romans 1:26-27)
  • Disrespecting pastors and leaders (I Corinthians 1: 10-13)
  • Watching/ reading tv shows, books, movies, etc. that feature immorality and crudeness.  (Psalm 119:37)
  • Pornography (Galatians 5:19)
  • Marital unfaithfulness (Hebrews 13:4)

There’s more, but you get the idea.

The moment of decision is here for the body of Christ. Every believer will be challenged to decide whether we are all in with the kingdom of God or not.  The Christian who tries to live with one foot in both worlds will be in trouble in the days to come. I believe God is exposing sin because he loves us and doesn’t want us living as prisoners in the promised land.

Many deceptions and false teachers are already released into the world. I believe much of that is going to be revealed in the months to come. Those who lead the body of Christ into sinful behavior and practices will also be exposed.

Meanwhile, the harvest, a great one, is coming at us fast. Are we ready? He will use vessels that are pure, holy. Not perfect, but certainly not accommodating to sin. I’m praying Psalm 139: 23-24 for myself. How about you?

“Search me, O God and know my heart; test me, and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offense way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”
